What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle, non invasive, holistic therapy which involves specialist massage techniques being applied to specific areas of the feet or hands, which are known as reflex points. These techniques aim to increase blood and energy flow to targeted organs and systems of the body in order to stimulate the body’s own natural healing processes.

The History of Reflexology

  • Reflexology was practiced in China 400 years ago as part of acupuncture as the Chinese believe there is a relationship between the point where pressure is applied and the rest of the body

  • Native north American Indians used manipulation of the feet as part of their healing practice

  • Modern reflexology started in the USA in the early 20th century, known initially as 'zone therapy' and has since then been further researched and refined

How does Reflexology Work?

Energy flows in zones throughout the body.  An accumulation of stress can lead to a congestion of energy which can then result in illness.  Reflexology helps to keep the energy flowing.  During treatment the reflexologist can detect and manipulate a particular area of the foot with their hands to release any blockages and rebalance the organ or zone being worked on.
