After Care Advice

Drink plenty of Water – During any holistic treatment, toxins are released into the circulation from the parts of the body being worked upon.  Drinking water helps with the removal of these toxins from the body.  Drinking plenty of water every day is very important to your health.  Two litres of water per day is recommended.  Feeling thirsty indicates you are already 10% dehydrated and this can lead to lethargy, headaches and reduced productivity.

Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine – Both are stimulants and contain many toxins.  Adding to the toxins already in your body following a treatment can cause the circulation to become overloaded and can cause you to feel nauseous, lethargic or have headaches.  Avoid for 12 – 24 hours if you can.  The Government guidelines on alcohol intake is for no more than 14 units per week for both men and women, to keep low any health risks.  It is also advisable to have two drink-free days each week.

Eat a light meal – Treatments increases the blood supply to the area being treated and reduces to other parts of the body.  Eating a large meal means the stomach requires an increased blood supply to digest the food and so digestion may be compromised and indigestion or bloating may result.  A good balanced diet is important to health, eating plenty of fruit and vegetables, fish and white meat.  Fibre/carbohydrates are important to keep bowel movements regular.  A poor diet can affect the skin, cause headaches and stress.

Avoid strenuous exercise – If exercise is done too soon following a treatment, your body will not have had the opportunity to respond and relax, so not gaining the full benefits from the treatment.  Gentle exercise which involves stretching the muscles is recommended, such as gentle walking, swimming, Yoga, Pilates and Ti Chi.

Avoid other holistic treatments for 24 hours – Some treatments do not go very well together and allowing this time between treatments enables the body to rebalance and recover.  

Other considerations:

  • Reduce smoking – it can slow the circulation, causes tiredness

  • Get more rest/sleep – 6 to 8 hours is preferable

  • Increase relaxation/hobbies/interests – bathe, listen to relaxing music

  • Exercising 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes is beneficial to your health, perhaps try a gentle exercise such as Pilates or Yoga

After an Aromatherapy Treatment – All as above.  Avoid washing off the oils for at least 6 – 8 hours to get the most benefit from the essential oils.  

 

Keep safe and alert - allow ten minutes before driving and get some fresh air after treatment as you will be feeling deeply relaxed
